Antony Wandera is an experienced conservation scientist with over 20 years in Ecology and conservation biology with specific focus on wildlife population management, habitat management, wildlife connectivity and working with community for effective wildlife management. He holds a master’s in science in Conservation Biology and is currently the Northern Rangelands Trust Director for Mt. Kenya Region based in Nanyuki.
Antony previously worked for Kenya Wildlife Service in the Rhino program – Species department and as a research scientist in the Mountain Conservation Area. He currently provides oversight to 7 NRT Member community conservancies in Laikipia and Meru counties where communities are focused in Human Wildlife Conflict (HWC) mitigation, expansion for rhino area and managing connectivity between Laikipia Private ranches and community conservancies towards the north. He sits in the IUCN Antelope specialist group (2018 to present), Association of Private and Community Lands Rhino Association, Regional and National species task force – Elephant, Giraffe, Grevy’s Zebra, Large Carnivores, and Pangolin. Other associated working groups are – Northern wildlife corridors, natural assets inventory, and monitoring illegal killing of elephants (MIKE).
Antony has consistently worked with various partners in collaborative engagements that focusses on data sharing in assisting in Laikipia County in their County Spatial Planning thus promoting people driven science-based conservation.
