Ewaso Maji Users SACCO

The newly established water savings and credit cooperative society (SACCO) dubbed EMU-SACCO, (Ewaso Maji User Savings and Credit Cooperative). The SACCO strives to help farmers access finance for water conservation investments at farm level.

EMU-SACCO intends to fill this gap through a very palatable and homemade solution, the SACCO institution. Over the years Sacco’s have proven to be the machinery that has driven social-economic change for local communities who have little or no access to formal financial products offered by banks to formally employed persons. The SACCO seeks to be the solution for financial success and further more encourage water conservation efforts at household and community level. This is through putting up water conservation infrastructure such as water pans and also water efficiency technology such as solar pumps and drip irrigation systems.

EMU-SACCO is comprised of members who are smaller holder famers in the Ewaso North Basin Region. These are local farmers who see the importance of water conservation at household level and are eager to have more sustainable farming livelihoods.

We are 125 members strong and have a focus of getting to 400 memberships by end of 2020.

• Credit Policy Formulation: 30th August 2019.
• 100 member registration: November 2019.
• 1st Special General Meeting: 6th December 2019.

We operate in 5 counties namely: Laikipia, Meru, Nyeri, Isiolo, and Nyandarua. Our offices are located at Laikipia Forum compound in Nanyuki.
