The Tourism Regulatory Authority (TRA) is a corporate body established under section of Tourism Act No. 28 of 2011.
The TRA has a mandate to regulate the tourism sector in Kenya and, they do this through developing standards, regulations and guidelines that ensure an all-round quality service delivery in the tourism sector.
Recently, the TRA organized a virtual validation forum with stakeholders in the tourism sector for these standards. Stakeholder validation is the sixth step in the Standards development process which entails.
Stakeholders identifying a need→ Research and development of an initial draft→ Formation of a sector technical committee and development of the standard→ Public review of the draft→ Incorporation of Stakeholders inputs the draft by technical committee→ Stakeholder validation→ Board Approval→ Sensitization→ Implementation.
Over the last year the TRA worked with various tourism stakeholders to develop standards for the tourism sector. The standards prescribe the minimum requirements for tourism enterprises and their offerings.
- Food Safety and Hygiene
- Hotel Safety and Security
- Adventure sports
- MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences & Exhibitions)
