All of us at Kenya Treks had a good holiday season over the last few months with guests from the UK and Canada climbing with us.
Our guests ranged in age from 13 to 72 and I’m glad to say that everyone made it to Point Lenana. Over the years mountain hiking has gained wider appeal beyond die-hard trekking enthusiasts. Mount Kenya is a huge challenge but it is an achievable goal for many across the generations.
One of our trips was for a lovely family of six. They had an impressive Kenyan itinerary including safari in Ol Pejeta, white water rafting on the Tana, a PADI course at Diani beach and of course, most importantly, climbing Mount Kenya!
This trip was a particularly memorable highlight for our team. While on the mountain, the family celebrated the eldest son’s birthday. At sunrise, before everyone was awake, the parents decorated the tents with balloons. They laid out a batch of little birthday presents on the breakfast table. Then they all set off from Lake Ellis to Lake Michaelson with balloons attached to their backpacks.
To top it all, the very same son received his ‘hoped-for’ A Level exam results at the summit which meant he got into his chosen university to study architecture.
An amazingly happy experience all round!
