As with any strategic plan, Oramat Lenaboisho Cooperative Society began with a vision – A profitable and world-class livestock cooperative society. In addition to our vision, the board and staff crafted a mission statement: To enhance the livelihoods of our members and communities, through the best livestock value chain development practices and rangeland management. We accomplish through integrated resource mobilization and management in Laikipia County and beyond.
These elements of our strategy will help fulfil the principles of the Society by providing our members with a lifetime association that enhances success, enjoyment, and fulfilment in life. These combined statements would later provide the inspiration and the “glue” for our entire strategic plan.
With the development of our first strategic plan, we are developing a road map of where we want to grow as a Cooperative Society over the next 3 years.
In order to realize our vision and achieve our mission, the Society plans to uphold the values and promote positive cultural practices, a dedication to the community and informed pastoralism, honesty and integrity, peaceful coexistence, professionalism and innovation. This is in addition to subscribing to the internationally agreed-upon cooperative principles.
Through the strengths and opportunities we have identified four key results for our new strategic plan:
(1) Land and ecosystem management
(2) Cooperative governance
(3) Business development
(4) Community development.
The details of these areas will soon be available once our strategic plan is reviewed and approved by the membership.
Our strategic plan also looks into ways the Society has collaborated with its partners and will focus on strengthening these partnerships. Through our partnerships, we will be able to develop our Society for a successful future.
