Arriving in Nanyuki where good restaurants abound, you may not realize you are on the edge of the outdoor capital of Kenya. Climbing, trekking, canyoning and of course the second highest mountain on the continent all lie within a few kilometers of the town.
Rift Valley Adventures has been operating adventurous activities for over 20 years and we are still finding incredible new climbing venues. The rock climbing in this area is some of the best I have come across in thirty years of climbing around the world. All you have to do is dig a little deeper and what you find is incredibly special.
The climbing in Ngare Ndare is superb but look a little further to the edge of the Mukogodo Forest or the outer flanks of the Ngare Ndare Forest and you will find true exploration. For those looking to go a little further, Mt. Ololokwe offers superb trekking and climbing, especially on the isolated towers: The Cat and Mouse. To many who look at these walls and mountains, you might think that its beyond you, but with an experienced guide, you will soon realize that it’s not exclusive to the elite. Picture yourself in these images and you will truly experience what Laikipia has to offer.
Nanyuki sits on the doorstep of some of the world’s most unique adventure experiences. The rock climbing is unparalleled with backdrops that give you a sense of how vast and diverse the country is. My weekends are spent looking at new venues and every time, I’m blown away by the quality of the climbing and the vast expanse’s Kenya has where you feel like you are way out in the wilderness. And its way out there, where the Wi-Fi doesn’t reach, that the adventure begins and you can get back in touch with nature through adventure.
This is especially important as the world faces a climate crisis and getting back to grassroots adventure brings us back in touch with nature and the environment we need to protect. There is no need to think that this is exclusive to the super strong or fit. All that’s needed is a sense of adventure and willingness to have a look at look at what lies beyond the Nyama Choma stalls on the Thika Highway. There are not many places in the world where you can Jump into blue pools and climb or trek in places that give you a sense of true wilderness all within reach of each other and that’s what makes Laikipia, the outdoor capital of Kenya!
Rift Valley Adventures operates worldwide offering specialized outdoor adventure trips across the continent, Europe and Australia. We use highly qualified professional guides who are able to access these magnificent venues and leading the outdoor adventures of East Africa.
