ILMAMUSI is reviewing its elapsed forest management plan. Support for the activity comes from the Laikipia Conservancies Association. This Participatory Forest Management Plan final document will be followed by negotiations and signing of a 5 – year Forest Management Agreement between ILMAMUSI Mukogodo Forest Association and Kenya Forest Service. These are the two tools governing GOK forest reserves and Community Forest Associations.
The plan is expected to provide more opportunities for the creation and expansion of bio enterprises in the forest and help the CFA market its ecotourism activities within the Forest. The plan will also act as an ILMAMUSI fundraising tool especially with our activities and plans are well captured in the plan.
The plan provides a roadmap for enterprises such as ecotourism, bee keeping, herbal medicine development, research, and education geared towards enhanced livelihood of the community living adjacent to the forest.
It is our hope that through this engagement, the Forest will be better protected, better conserved, and sustainably utilized for the present and future generations.
The Plan has already been forwarded to the Chief Conservator of Forests for approval.
