His education started in Nairobi and further degrees took him to the Netherlands and UK with a doctorate from the University of East Anglia.
He has been recognized with Presidential Awards and received the Silver Star, the Moran of the Burning Spear, and Chief of the Burning Spear most recently in 2006.
Romano is a son and resident of the greater Laikipia landscape and is building a home on the slope of Mt. Kenya in Meru County, not far from the border with Laikipia/Nanyuki. Romano is married to Susan Wanja Mungiiria, and they have a son, daughter in-law and two grandchildren.
