Community members from Lekurruki/Sieku, Il Ngwesi, Makurian, and Kuri Kuri have a reason to smile after the successful rehabilitation of 5 water projects within the Mukogodo landscape.
The water point rehabilitation is great news for community members and for their livestock, especially at a time when Laikipia is experiencing low rainfall. Wildlife troughs have also been provided as select sites.
Rehabilitation was made possible because of a GEF 6 Restoration Initiative Project grant through the Food and Agriculture organization and implemented by ILMAMUSI Community Forest Association through its partnership with the Laikipia Forum.
The water points rehabilitated are a combination of borehole rehabilitations and spring protections. Each water point is supported by a community committee dedicated to its operations and maintenance. More than 10,000 people will benefit from these projects and include schools and dispensaries as part of the beneficiaries.
