The Mount Kenya Ewaso Water Partnership continues to show its purpose in ensuring that the people of the upper Ewaso Ng’iro North Basin and its environs are water secure. The partnership is currently implementing the WRUA Institutional Development Project through the support of the WRG 2030 that is hosted by the World Bank.
The Project has been endorsed by the WRUAs across the greater Laikipia region and aims to strengthen the institutional and financial capacity of WRUAs so that they can conduct their legal roles effectively and sustainably at the river (sub-catchment) level. The model is designed to provide an institutional and financially secure future for WRUAs and their role in water security.
In order to ensure accountability among the WRUAs and to guide implementation of the Project, the Project team established a Project Implementation Committee (PIC) that is mandated to provide oversight, monitor and evaluate this phase of WRUA and water management.
The 9-member team is comprised of two WRUA representatives, three county representatives (Isiolo, Laikipia and Nyeri), the WRUA Forum chair, a CETRAD representative, and the Mount Kenya Growers Group. MKEWP serves as the as the secretariat.
The PIC is voluntary and each member has agreed to provide at least 3 days every month to provide technical assistance to the 7 piloting WRUAs. The intention is for them to enhance the institutional and technical capacity of the WRUAs, and to provide support and guidance.
The PIC will review the work of the 7 pilot WRUAs for the months of March- June and visit the WRUAs to authenticate their performance.
