This month, I was privileged to enjoy a stay at the stunning, multiple award-winning Il Ngwesi Lodge. What an experience! It took about two and a half hours from Nanyuki to get to our destination. Along the way, we enjoyed incredible views and wildlife, which made the trip worthwhile.
The lodge staff happily welcomed us upon arrival. The lodge recruits all staff from the local community. The lodge team prioritizes giving all guests a memorable experience.
Simon du Fresne designed Il Ngwesi in 1996. The lodge has six rooms, each providing a different and unique experience. These rooms have something in common, though they all provide stunning views with opportunities to view diverse wildlife species and the vast Laikipia landscape.
The most popular room is room number one, popularly dubbed the Prince William room (where the royal couple stayed). It is the most private location on the lodge; this makes it a good choice for couples on vacation and honeymoons. The room is also closest to the waterhole. The waterhole draws wildlife from a wide area.
This room and room five also have large verandas that allow visitors a rare opportunity to sleep under the stars.
