The BIOPAMA Mukogodo Support Project, supported by the European Union and the African, Caribbean and Pacific Group of States is on the right track towards full implementation.
Based on the latest meeting, held on the 26th of March 2021 at the Lewa Wildlife Conservancy, the implementing team reviewed the Project roadmap and agreed they were on course for success.
The team comprising of The ILMAMUSI Forest Association, Lewa Wildlife Conservancy, Kenya Forest Service, Borana Conservancy, Kenya Wildlife Service, the Northern Rangeland Trust, and the Laikipia Forum verified the status of the following areas:
- Communication, monitoring, security and reporting protocol for the Mukogodo Landscape
- Procurement of 5 digital radios for the ILMAMUSI rangers
- Mapping of the Mukogodo forest patrol blocks
- Selection of the digital forest habitat and wildlife monitoring system
- Ranger Training – planning on the content/scope, training schedule, training costs and venue
Here are the particulars from the meeting.
The objective of the Project is to ensure that the Forest Association’s rangers can engage effectively in security and conservation measures in the Forest with their surrounding partners. The Project will allow the rangers to join the radio network of security forces in the landscape and gives them the means to join in wildlife monitoring efforts.
