The Laikipia Forum is pleased to confirm the appointment of 15 board members to its family.
In a bid to strengthen partnership and cohesion among conservation organizations, the Forum chose a 15 member board derived from key stakeholders in the conservation sector within the Greater Laikipia region.
The Board members are selected from the following organizations: Mpala Research Centre, Northern Rangeland Trust (NRT), County Government of Laikipia, Ewaso Maji Users Sacco, Space for Giants, National Environment Management Authority(NEMA), ORAMAT Lenaboisho, Mount Kenya Ewaso Water Partnership, Laikipia Tourism Association, The Northern Kenyan Conservation Educators, Laikipia Conservancies Association, ILMAMUSI Community Forest Association, Centre for Training and Integrated Research in ASAL Development (CETRAD), and The Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS).
We are as well pleased to announce that Dr. Romano Kiome has accepted to serve as the Chair of the Forum. Dr. Kiome assumes this role this month, in August 2022. His election to the board leadership was unanimous among the Forum’s member organizations and associations.
Dr. Kiome is a well-known figure in Kenyan agriculture and natural resources programming. He’s served as Deputy Director and then Director of the Kenya Agriculture Research Institute. He was permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Agriculture between 2006 – 2013.
More recently he’s led the thinking in support of CGIAR Centers in Africa and contributed to the East African Livestock Research Strategy. He presently serves a “Chief of Party” for a USAID Feed the Future Program.
What is exceptional about our new Chair is his non-nonsense approach to leadership, his extensive service to board leadership and strategic thinking, his extensive networks and affiliations with Kenya government and donors, and his prowess in the development of programs that are well-funded.
